Fire Trails & Waterway Crossings at Shoalwater

Further works is progressing at Shoalwater Bay.

​In August 2021 RMS was award our first project at Shoalwater Bay, Central Queensland.  As part of the Australian Singapore Military Training Initiative for the Department of Defence the Shoalwater Bay training area is being expanded to meet the future needs of the Australian Defence Force.
 
RMS was awarded a package to undertake the construction of fire trails and waterways crossings along the Western and Northern boundaries.  The works involved the following:

• Temporary access and maintenance work for waterway crossings and trails.
• Construction of waterway crossings including geotextile, rock, unbound pavement and scour protection.
• Grade, clear and compact unimproved fire trails including passing and turning bays.
• Gravel top-up for blended pavement fire trail construction including ripping and conditioning of existing surface and 75mm unbound pavement top-up and placement.
• Pavement construction for fire access tracks (150mm – 300mm think) including geogrid installation and passing and turning bays.
• Composite drainage structure construction including spoon drains, cross bank drains and table and mitre drains.
• Grading of inner fire track at inner limit/edge of firebreak.

 
With this project near completion, RMS has been awarded a further similar package at Shoalwater for more fire trails and waterway crossing construction programmed for completion in November 2022.
